Who we are
A family story
Making flour is the oldest profession in the world. At Grandi Molini Italiani, we have learned this trade from our ancestors, millers who milled wheat on the banks, or “coast” of the river Po: this is where our surname comes from. Today we have reached the sixth generation, and we never get tired of learning. In our five mills spread throughout Italy, our people want to do things in the best possible way, based on science and a social conscience, but above all with the passion and vision of one large family.
1886
Antonio Costato (1825-1900) was awarded a license by King Umberto I of Italy to take water from the river Po for a steam engine.
1921
Marcello Costato (1871-1937) built one of the first industrial mills in Rovigo. His son Antonio (1908-1983) developed it into a large national company.
1958
Luigi Costato (1934), founded Molino Costato in Rome and, through subsequent acquisitions, expanded flour exports.
1978
In 1978 Grandi Molini Italiani becomes bigger with the addition of the mill in Porto Marghera (VE).
1991
Addition of the mill in Coriano Veronese (VR)
1996
In 1996 the company sees the addition of the mill in Cordovado (PN)
1997
Grandi Molini Italiani strengthens its logistics and distribution operations with the addition of the Trieste and Vienna terminals.
2000
Grandi Molini Italiani strengthens its logistics and distribution operations with the addition of the Trieste and Vienna terminals.
2007
Addition of Triera Power, the bioenergy production division.
2015
In view of Expo 2015, the Venice plant was redeveloped with the AAA mill project.
2017
Antonioluigi Costato (1986) was the first sixth- generation family member to join the company, committed to upgrading its processes and corporate image.
2020
With a decree of the Chamber of Commerce of Venice and Rovigo on 16 January 2020, Grandi Molini Italiani is officially in the Register of Historic Companies of Italy. That is a special list established in 2011 on the occasion of the 150th Anniversary of the Unification of Italy.
